Chin Family Farms Organic began growing organic Hemp in May of 2019. With 17 years of experience as organic farmers, we selected fields from our farm holdings especially suited for Hemp cultivation. Growing a winning crop takes a marriage between quality seed, technology, Ag experience, and strict compliance with organic growing standards. Hemp is a heritage crop but has not been grown in earnest in the United States for over a century. In the 21st Century, technology plays a large role in growing quality crops capable of producing a quality full-spectrum CBD oil. Until 2019, Hemp farmers propagated their Hemp seed in greenhouses on trays, and by hand, they would transplant these seedlings into their fields. At Chin Farms, we applied 17 years of experience and technology and eliminated this costly and expensive planting process. Instead of utilizing greenhouse propagation and transplant, we utilized our high technology onion planter and planted seed directly to our ground. Our method coupled with established potato irrigation systems yielded an amazing crop stand with very little seed failure. In our initial rollout year, the 2019 farm year ended early because of freezing weather. What we thought was a rookie mistake turned out to be a stroke of luck as the freeze caused a freeze-drying effect which preserved our oil, and allowed us to use our Case International Combine to harvest our Hemp plants. The combining handled harvest very efficiently, and our biomass yield produced beautiful CBD crude.
Turning organic Hemp biomass into oil while maintaining the Organic certifications on our crop required engaging a processor who is organically certified. We selected Fsoil, LLC located in Woodburn, OR to handle this task. With 3 years of Hemp processing experience and many years of expertise in dealing with cannabis processing, they were a perfect choice. Fsoil is a fully certified organic hemp processing laboratory with a handling Certification through (One-Cert). They also have Siliker Certificates for good manufacturing practices, established food safety systems audits, and a Certificate of Compliance with Validus Verification Service through the US Hemp Authority.
To turn our winterized CBD crude oil into our CBD product line shown here, we selected Highland Laboratories located in Mt Angel, OR. Highland Labs are fully Certified Organic through Oregon Tilth and maintain strict sanitation standards in the production of our products. Using our 2019 crop, we produced high-quality CBD tinctures, capsules, and creams. OUR PRODUCTS ARE FULLY CERTIFIED ORGANIC HEMP PRODUCTS FROM OUR FIELDS TO YOUR HOME.
Chin Family Farms Organic takes great pride in producing the very best organic crops. Potatoes, Alfalfa, Onions, Garlic, Wheat, Hemp and Barley are all grown organically to exacting standards with the help of our committed and highly experienced employees. Many of our employees have been with farms for over 45 years. For us at Chin Farms, they are family. Food Safety is our prime concern and remains our first priority as we grow and process our crops. Our long-standing as innovative and technology-driven organic farmers have allowed us to establish well-known and respected organic agricultural programs and farm practices. These programs ensure that each of our fields is carefully monitored and the products we produce are traced from our fields to storage and then to packaging and processing. All to ensure quality and traceability.
Chin Family Farms Organic, LLC is certified through the California and Oregon Departments of Agriculture and Oregon Tilth for all organic certifications. We also do a Global Gap Audit each year to assure our customers that we provide safe and pathogen-free products with food safety protocols in place.
CHIN FAMILY STORY
WONG POTATOES AND CHIN FAMILY FARMS
In 1920, Sam Wong left China in search of his dream. America was known to his fellow villagers as the “Land of Opportunity”. Sam’s journey to America was not easy, as it was filled with challenges and setbacks, but Sam did discover for himself how wonderful the United States of America could be. Sam fell in love with and married Suei Fong, who after 7 years of waiting was able to join Sam in California. Together, these two kids chased their dreams with a willingness to work as hard as it took to build their life in the United States.
As young Chinese immigrants, Sam and Suei taught themselves to read and write in English, business mathematics for computations, and learned how to farm. Sam initially settled in the Stockton-Delta area of California where he initially grew potatoes for sale in the local Sacramento markets.
Farming potatoes was our grandfather’s American dream and he worked very hard to support his family. This quest took the Chins from Stockton, CA to Fallon, NV., to Alturas, CA, and finally to Klamath Falls, Oregon. While operating a Chinese restaurant in Alturas, CA. Sam met a salesman from the Klamath Basin (Oregon/California border) who told Sam that potatoes grew very well in the rich soils found in the Klamath Basin. Sam decided to give Klamath Falls a try and rented a field there in the early1930s. His first crop of potatoes was a success. This motivated Sam to permanently move his family to Klamath Falls, and from there we have farmed for 4 generations.
Sam had no MBA, but he was armed with common sense. He learned by watching folks who were successful and emulating them. It became obvious to Sam that he needed to value enhance his potato crop by sorting and bagging his crop under his own distinctive brand labels. Over time many local potato farmers sought to have Sam sort and grade their potatoes for sale under his labels for sale in the Sacramento and San Francisco produce markets. From this humble beginning, the company of Sam Wong and Son, Inc. was born. Over the years, Sam grew russet potatoes and operated his dry sorting and grading facility. Sam and Suei would have eight children which is a blessing on a farm, but their educations and not work in the fields was their first priority. George and Joe stayed on the farms to build the family Agri-business while the rest of their children went on to their own professions. How we became known as “Chins” is a long and interesting story reserved for another time but in honor of our American heritage, the Chin name has been carried forward for 4 generations of children/grandchildren & great-grandchildren.
In 1999 Daniel and Dee Dee Chin became the new face of Sam Wong and Son, rebranding to their new name, “Wong Potatoes, Inc.” and “Chin Family Farms”. To this day they grow, sort, pack and ship potatoes throughout the USA and the Pacific Rim. Our red, yellow, purple, russet, Klamath pearls and fingerling potatoes are produced with the same pride that our Grandfather Sam Wong, father George Chin, and Uncle Joe Chin grew during their tenures.
