HEMP CROP 2020
PRIDE IN QUALITY, CERTIFIED ORGANIC PRODUCE
We specially schedule and design our crop rotations to control organic growing conditions so that pests and weeds are controlled while maximizing our organic soil conditions. Our farmland is our livelihood, and it must be maintained in the best possible condition.
Our 2020 Hemp crop began with a specifically programmed ground preparation regimen in April
2020. A machine known as a “Spader” is used to pulverize the soil. Akin to a rototiller, the spader mixes the soil from top to bottom. We do this early to force the early germination of weeds so that we can till them out after they have sprouted before planting.
Thereafter, we fortify the soil beds with liquid fish emulsion, incorporating it at a rate 60 gals/acre, and blend it fully by using a shanking implement. This achieves a very even mixture into the hemp beds. To plant, we used our specialized Onion planter reprogramed to plant raw Hemp seed at a spacing of 5-feet between plants. In 2020, we selected and planted three (3) different Hemp varieties and one CBG variety as an experiment. We then set up our solid set irrigation pipe at 30′ X 50′ spacing and watered the hemp seed using extended risers to accommodate for the tremendous height of our hemp plants. Many varieties can achieve 6 to 8 feet in height.
After approximately 4 days, hemp plants began emerging. We then irrigate the hemp plants every 4 days to maintain moisture close to the seed. Remarkably, our plant stand was about 92% which produced strong healthy plants. Hemp requires frequent weeding utilizing our home-built automatic cultivator-weeder and some good old-fashioned hand weeding.
Hemp plants grow fast with water and organic fertilizer. We’ve posted some photographs showing the growth and health of our organic plants. The photos are organized monthly. Growth started in June, July, August, September, and with harvest in October. (See the photos attached)
Good healthy soil grows strong healthy plants.
We harvested the hemp plants in October and put them up to dry in our repurposed potato storage shed with good air circulation. From there, we processed the dried biomass into Hemp oil. Another successful crop was grown in 2020 and harvested by our dedicated farm crew. We thank them very much for their hard work and diligence as it takes many knowledgeable hands to produce our top-quality crops!
Thank you,
